We are thrilled to announce the long awaited second issue of Total Art Journal. It has been a long time coming, but worth it. The issue gathers together essays that address the intersections of performance art and research largely grouped into two sections: “On self” is made up of contributions by Annette Arlander, Angela Bartram and Mary O’Neill, Red Earth, and Natasha Lushetich. “On others” features Gillian Wylde writing on Sinéad O’Donnell, Victoria Gray on Mark Greenwood, David Moscovich on Beatriz Albuquerque, and Jennie Klein on Finland’s ANTI festival. We also are beginning what will be a growing set of “performance photo-essays.” Our first two performance photo-essays highlight recent work by Vela Phelan and a collaboration between Joakim Stampe and Chuyia Chia.
We have had a hard year, and have lost some dear friends. Two of these are featured in tributes: Bob Raymond, a central collaborator on Total Art Journal and a key member of the Boston arts community, and Black Market International‘s Norbert Klassen. The world will not be the same without them. This issue is dedicated to their spirit and vision.
We hope you enjoy the issue and wish you the best for 2013.
